Dios Mio

I haven't taken much time to write lately - between getting the show open and doing some freelance temp work on the side, I haven't been left with a whole lot of time for anything. And on top of everything else, I've managed to catch strep throat. At least I think it's strep... I'm assuming I caught it from Renata Marino, who's playing Lucy in the cast. She had it when we started rehearsal. I don't usually get sick, but I'm guessing that with all the pressure I was putting on myself to do my first musical well, the stress caught up with my immune system.

So I started antibiotics and liquids and I've been resting my voice every chance I get, but I still sound like a bullfrog. I'm frankly surprised the audiences haven't run screaming from the building.

The reviews have actually been quite good. Most note that I'm not really a singer - no surprise there - but are pretty forgiving of the fact, since Charlie Brown doesn't necessariy have to be Enrique Caruso or anything.

If it weren't for the fact that my throat hurts something awful, I'd be having a great time with the show. I can see why musical theater folk enjoy their work so much - audiences eat this stuff up. I mean, I'm used to audiences wanting you to succeed, but I've never experienced it to quite this degree before.

So there ya have it. My life has, for most of the last couple of weeks, consisted of being sick as a dog and doing the show even though I think I sound like a bullfrog.
