Computer Quandry

I'm in a bit of a quandry.

The computer problem is still here, and I don't know what to do about it.  I've been researching the cost of replacing the screen on my laptop, but it's prohibitive.  And despite the fact that the guys at the fly-by-night computer repair place obviously wanted me to spend more money on a whole new screen (rather than replace the LCD converter), it turns out they were probably right.  The IT guys at work looked into it for me and it turns out that it's most likely integrated into the screen - so I really do need to replace the whole thing.

Now, I've researched getting a used computer and using it for parts - I could probably pick one up for around $400 or so on E-Bay... but then I'd be in the same situation; any computer that's even close to mine in age is probably gonna suffer the same problem.

So that leaves me with the idea of replacing the screen with a new one, which, according to the guys at work, is probably gonna cost me between $700 & $900.

So here's the quandry:  Do I spend possibly $900 on a new screen for a two-year old computer that's otherwise still in fair shape but will last for who knows how long, or do I spend $1200 on a new laptop?  I could do it, but boy things'd be tight for a while.

Any advice?
