Quiet New York
Kevin Lageman wrote me an e-mail today in which he mentioned wandering around Soho and finding quiet streets the likes of which you only see in movies about New York. I had to laugh at that - mostly because it's true, but also because it's not. There are plenty of quiet streets tucked away in corners of New York, but it's just that only rich people can afford to live on them and the rest of us really have no reason to go there.
Downing Street - which is only a block away from where I'm writing now at The Grey Dog - is just that kind of street. I enjoy hanging out there because it is so tree-lined and quiet. Carmine Street is also, but less so because it's a two-way street and there are so many businesses on it. But I would love to have an apartment in this area. It would be very, very, very cool.
And, of course, way (and I mean way) beyond my means.
