Plans
I've been watching what I eat the last few days. Not in the sense that I'm dieting, so much as just trying to observe the things I put in my body.
That, of course, can't help but have an effect, since every time I find myself reaching to put money into the candy vending machine at work, I pull up short and think about drinking another glass of water. I'm a little worried that, if I'm not careful, I'm going to end up with a culinarily joyless existence.
I talked to Amy Hartman today and she has graciously invited me to stay with her while I'm in Pittsburgh this weekend. I'm taking the train back Friday to help Doug pack up his truck full o' belongings for the move into his new place on 173rd Street. I can't imagine what it must be like to be able to afford to own a place in New York, let alone be able to buy one outright. I'm very happy for him of course. Doug is a dear friend, and he deserves something this nice after the stuff life's dished out for him.
So Doug's buying my train ticket (or, more precisely, reimbursing me for buying one) and after we load up his truck on Sunday morning, he's gonna drive the rental truck back to New York, and I'm going to follow him in his Pathfinder.
Amy's even suggested that I can use her car during the weekend, since she's going to be cloistered away writing. That would be very nice, since it would give me a chance to visit my mom.
I haven't seen my folks since last Christmas (ish), so it would be wonderful to visit with them. Come to think of it, I might have seen them when I went back to Pittsburgh for Toni's wedding, but still...
