Fresh (Electronic) Meat

Well, I'm back!

My new computer arrived the day before yesterday, but I couldn't go to the PICT office to pick it up until yesterday.  I spent most of last night loading software and old files, so here I am, sitting in a coffee shop and tapping away, just as in days of yore.

I still haven't figured out how to use the wireless internet capability - I guess that's gonna have to wait until I've got a bit more time to sit and mess with it.  The problem with going the "build your own" route is that it's a little light on support.  If I had bought a pre-packaged computer from, say, Dell or Gateway, it would have come with all the correct software and drivers pre-loaded, and tons of manuals to get me through the rough spots.  Now, the company from which I bought the computer - MGE PC Online - actually supplied software and drivers for all the hardware that's installed on the computer, but because I didn't pay to have Windows installed (I already owned a copy and wasn't paying to buy another one!), I had to install all that stuff on my own.  Yahoo.

I'm beginning to think I didn't install the wireless driver correctly, or something, 'cuz I believe it's supposed to recognize wireless networks in places like this coffee shop autotmatically.  So I'll give it another go tonight, perhaps, after I get back from rehearsal.

So my next big thing is to recover all the data from the hard drive of my old laptop when I get back to New York City.

I wonder how often I'm going to update this journal now that I've fallen out of the habit of constantly journaling-updating all in one sitting.  I'm more likely now to pull out my paper journal and write there, without thinking about sitting down to plug away at the computer.  I guess we'll see.
