Stalking

I think I'm getting better at sussing out who the gay men are as I'm traveling through life, and I'm beginning to think this whole "gaydar" thing is a myth.  I don't think you can know if someone's gay just by looking at them, but you sure can figure it out pretty quickly if you watch them.

There's a guy in the coffee shop here who's a classic example.  He came into the joint and caught my eye, 'cuz he's cute... well, actually, he's more hot than he is cute - he's definitely a "C-You/C-Me" on the Hierarchy of Homos -- and I've been watching the way he watches other people in the coffee shop.  He won't make sustained eye contact with me because I'm not in his league and therefore unworthy of consideration, but the other cute guys are the ones upon whom his eyes are lingering.  It's really kinda fascinating to watch, because I know that I do the same thing, and he's even better at watching people without letting them know that he's watching them than I am.  And that's saying something.

He's doing a great job of checking out guys on the sly.  What I can't figure out is why he feels the need to be so surreptitious at it.  Pittsburgh's not as progressive as the rest of the world, but it's not like eyeballing a guy will get you beaten to a pulp anymore, and this guy looks like he can take care of himself.  So I don't really get it.

So tonight is our final dress before our first preview, and boy is this show crying out for an audience.  I know I definitely need an audience to feed off of, and I think Jay agrees.  Stuart has probably had all he can stand of us!  The poor guy is up to his nose hairs in our show and teaching for CMU's pre-college summer program, and now he's getting ready to start on Big Love, which he's doing in August -- so I imagine it'll be a relief for him to get this thing open and move on.

I'm anxious to put this thing in front of a full size audience... or at least a full size audience for which I feel prepared.  Last week's extravaganza in Wheeling was fun and all, but I've never had such a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants feeling when I was on stage before.  It's amazing what a difference a week makes.  Well, that and being able to do the blocking for the show that I've learned, as opposed to re-blocking the show for a one-night stand on an entirely different kind of stage.
