Sleeping In
So yesterday's bike ride must have kicked my ass more than I thought. I slept until 11:45 a.m. today! But I was surprised that I didn't feel it as much, physically. I don't ache at all, which really surprises me.
Well, that's not entirely true -- the sunburn on my arms is kicking my ass and stings like a bastard, but my muscles aren't nearly as beat up as I expected them to be. In fact, they aren't sore at all. What's up with that, I don't know.
So tomorrow I'm going to go riding with Christopher Cartmill, and then tomorrow night I'm going to go see Kenny's friend Vince Gatton in a show. Please God, don't let it suck. I like Vince a little too much for me to handle it if he's a bad actor. That would ruin my week.
So getting up late today just threw my whole schedule for painting off. I didn't get to the hardware store to buy my supplies like I'd have liked, and there's not going to be another chance to do so until Wednesday. I'm hoping that getting that late a start will still allow me to get the painting done before I head off to Philadelphia.
Today was, however, another incredibly great day to be in New York. The weather was fantastic, and I took full advantage...well, as full advantage as a guy who slept half the day way can take. Still, it was a good one. I went for a nice long walk in the neighborhood, and stopped in at Gorilla Coffee on Fifth Avenue to check my e-mail and indulge in their tasty iced tea. My mom would probably plotz to discover that I've become a lover of iced tea. Heavily sweetened.
Afterward, I went to the new Target store at the Atlantic Terminal -- the newly refurbished area around the Atlantic Avenue subway station for the 2, 3, 4, 5, M, N, R & W trains. It's quite the hub, and it's part of what makes living where I do so cool. Well, now that all the annoying construction is over.
Anyway, the trip to Target was a bit of a bust. I mainly went to browse, with small hopes of picking up the DVD of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, but the shelves of the video section were just stripped bare. I guess they didn't count on the amount of business the opening would generate, 'cuz according to Maya, that's pretty much been the case since they opened.
I shake my fist at them.
I did, however, score big at the DSW Shoe Outlet store. I got myself a new pair of dress shoes to replace my ratty old Kenneth Coles. I've had them since, like 1997, and they've always been too big for me in a way that (a) made them flop on my feet and (b) hurt like a motherfucker after standing around in them all day. They were, of course, free -- bought for me as a part of my "costume" on the car show circuit. I should have replaced them years ago, but let's face it, when it comes to some things, I'm a frugal bastard.
