Well, just when you thought the weekend couldn't be anymore fun, along comes Kenny Bolden to prove you wrong. I was surprised when Ken didn't make it to our get-together on Sunday night, but I found out when I got a call from him on Monday. He had the location wrong, and had spent the evening wandering the Shadyside area hoping to find us at a bar there.
The good news is that I was oddly delayed in leaving Pittsburgh, and he happened to be free Monday night - in as much as he could invite me to dinner along with Fred Noel (the stage manager at Pittsburgh Public), Fred's partner Rick, and a couple of friends for dinner.
What would otherwise have been a rather lame evening of killing time 'til I flew out on Tuesday turned into a really fun night. I drove over to Fred and Rick's house (that's where Ken is staying while he's in Pittsburgh doing Arabian Night for Quantum Theater), and we went to Buffalo Blues, a local restaurant, where we met Ken & Fred's old friends from college. After dinner, we returned to Fred & Rick's place (a beautiful old house that they've spent ten years working on) for an evening of chat and dessert.
It was really a wonderful time, and I managed to snap a decent picture of our party as everyone was getting ready to head out the door (it being a school night, after all):
All in all, a good day, and a great reminder of exactly how precious friends are - how they can rescue you when you didn't even know you needed rescuing!
