A Delay

Painting is delayed yet another day, sadly, for lack of a decent ladder.

I tried to get in touch with my ex-roommates, John & Gary to borrow their ladder, but their number's been disconnected, and I had to try to get through to Liza.  Alas, her phone was off, and though I sent an e-mail as well, I doubt I'll hear back from her by the end of the day.  So I figure if I can't borrow one by the end of the day, I'll buy one and get a fresh start early in the morning.  Worst comes to worst, that still leaves me four whole days to paint four rooms.  I think I should be able to pull it off.  God willing.

I'm certainly not going to freak out about it.  If Even Worse comes to Even Worst, I'll finish it up on my weekends -- just commute back from Philly.

It's a little weird to me that I blew $148 on painting supplies today.  I can be shockingly stingy at the most inappropriate times.

So I'm trying a new place in Park Slope that I discovered while I was showing Kenny around after our Coney Island adventure.  It's called Tea Lounge, and it's just that. So far, it's got a few things going against it:

  1. There's no wireless internet.
  2. The tea prices are rather steep, compared to places like Gorilla Coffee and the Grey Dog's.
  3. The place is chock full of children.  Children with parents, babies with nannies and mommies.  Children akimbo.

Its chief good point is that it's huge, and there's plenty of seating.  The decor is interesting and eclectic, too.  And they have a bar which serves alcohol -- kinda cool for those so inclined.  After last night, I'm not so much inclined.  Another thing in its favor:  Some of the Patrons are just full on cute.  Very cute blond boy just walked in with his little lap dog in a carrier.  He smiled at me.

I'm such an inveterate horndog.

So this place is charming and all, but I've decided that Total Wine Bar is gonna be my neighborhood hangout.  It's just so damn close, and how can I not love a place devoted to wine?  Although they're also going to be offering a beer menu, I think starting today.  Greg the bartender offered me a taste of two of the beers on the menu, an apricot ale, which was really good, and something called "Purple Haze" which, while quite good, wasn't really to my taste.

I'll be interested to see if they stick to their wine roots or if the demands of keeping the joint full makes them bend to their offering to the will of the masses.

One thing I learned about Adam last night is that he's also a member of the Park Slope Food Co-Op, which I've been considering joining.  He gives it a big thumbs up, and does his 2⅘-hour monthly shift as a cashier.  I think it's pretty cool, and they're apparently pretty flexible about schedules.

Which reminds me, when I get back from Philadelphia, I'm going to look into getting a job at Whole Foods, which is supposedly a pretty great company to work for, and is very flexible with artists' schedules.  Kenny recommended looking into it -- I think he might be considering it himself -- and I think it's a pretty good idea.  Worth looking into, at least.

Ah, the life of the actor.  Forty years old and considering a career in shelf-stocking.  America loves her artists, don't she?
