That Wasn't So Bad

I have to say, yesterday was the best Valentine's Day I've spent in quite some time!

I spent the evening in the company of Topher -- a fellow traveler in the wild and scary Land of the Boyfriendless -- and we had (or I should speak only for myself and say I had) a lovely time. I ran home first and changed into some comfy clothes, and picked up the half-bottle of wine that was left-over from my weekend with the Lagemæ. I scuttled the four long blocks from my apartment to the B train, and switched at West 4th Street to the F train, which drops me a block from Toph's apartment. It's a little thing, but I really get off on having lived in New York long enough to know how to surf the subways for minimal above-ground walking.

Anyway, I got to Toph's place, and we re-opened the wine and settled in for a really great night of... well, just talking. We ordered in Chinese food, and he mercilessly kicked my ass at Scrabble, and then we went through the bottle of wine he bought and the remnants of a bottle that he had left over.

It was just really relaxing to hang out with a friend, and just talk. How often do we do that? How often do we really say what we're thinking, even with our friends?

So. There you have it. I'm feeling like a pretty lucky guy again. And it's nice to have that feeling back.
